Is a limousine really what you want?
Be honest about the night you are picturing. Across North Texas, about 8% of the requests that name a vehicle ask for a limousine, against roughly ten times that for party buses. Limousines are a specialist choice, and the people who pick one are usually delighted, because they picked it on purpose.
A limousine is the better car when:
- The arrival is the moment. Stepping out of a stretch at a church, a ballroom or a steakhouse valet reads differently from stepping off a bus. Your photographer knows this already.
- Everyone stays seated anyway. You cannot stand up in a limo. For twenty-five minutes in formalwear, that is a feature. Nobody's hair meets the ceiling and nobody spills.
- Your group is small. About a fifth of our own requests are for ten riders or fewer. That fifth is the natural limousine audience.
- You want quiet. A partition, a closed cabin and a softer ride suit anniversaries, proposals and client dinners.
A party bus wins when your group wants to move around, when there are more than sixteen of you, or when the night has five stops and a playlist attached. Our party bus versus limo comparison goes event by event, and the party bus lineup is one click away if you change your mind.

Fifteen sizes in three lengths

The grid above runs from 6 to 34 riders. They sort into three lengths, and the lengths are genuinely different vehicles underneath.
| Length | Sizes | Built on | Suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Classic stretch | 6, 8, 10 | Sedan-based stretch with a J-shaped bench | Couples, newlyweds, three or four couples at prom, VIP airport arrivals |
| Long stretch | 12, 14, 16, 18 | SUV-based stretch, taller cabin, easier entry | Bridal parties, quinceañera courts, milestone birthdays, bigger prom groups |
| Super stretch | 20, 22, 24 and up to 34 | Extended SUV or specialty builds | Large formal groups who want the limo look at party bus capacity |
Two things change as you go up. Getting in gets easier, because an SUV-based stretch has taller doors and a higher roof, which you will appreciate in a ball gown or with a grandparent on your arm. And parking gets harder. A super stretch needs a wide turn and a long stretch of curb, and some older venues and tight residential streets simply cannot take one.
In the 8-to-14 range we also list limo-style Sprinters. Same headcount, full standing height, side door. If anyone in your group dreads ducking into a low cabin, ask about one of those instead.
Ten seats does not mean ten friends
Limousine capacity is the most misread number in this business. A party bus rated for 20 gives 20 people room around them. A limousine rated for 10 gives 10 average adults bench space, hip to hip. Both numbers are true. They describe very different evenings.
Capacity comes up in about 15% of the sales calls we have analyzed, and with limousines it is nearly always the same conversation. The short version:
- Short, formal ride? Size to your headcount plus two. Eight people in a 10-passenger limo is comfortable and still looks full in the photos.
- Wedding gowns and ball gowns? Count every full skirt as two seats. A bride, her dress and four bridesmaids fill an 8-passenger limo on their own.
- Over 45 minutes? Go up a full size. Bench seating with no armrests wears thin on the way out to McKinney or Rockwall.
- Tall riders? Take an SUV-based stretch. The headroom is noticeable the moment you sit down.
The Vehicle Size Matcher allows for formalwear once you tell it the occasion, and it will push you toward a party bus or a Sprinter when your numbers pass what a limousine handles gracefully.

The limo at a wedding has changed jobs

Weddings are where limousines are most at home, although couples use them more selectively than they once did. About 84% of wedding groups who name a vehicle ask for a party bus. Most couples now move the wedding party by bus and keep a limousine for the two of them.
That split works beautifully. The bus takes the loud, crowded legs: hotel to ceremony, ceremony to photos. The limousine takes the quiet ones: the bride with her parents beforehand, and the couple's exit at the end of the night. A small stretch booked only for the send-off covers the last leg and keeps your hours sensible.
Timing is what catches people out. Across North Texas, 74% of wedding requests are for a Saturday, and nearly half of them arrive three months to two years ahead. Every couple is chasing the same Saturdays, and they are chasing them early. If a particular white stretch matters to you, put it on the list right after the venue and the photographer.
Our wedding transportation page covers the whole day, guest shuttles included, and the Dallas wedding guide collects timing advice from local planners and photographers that decides when the car should be at your door.

Prom, quinceañeras, anniversaries and curtain calls
Prom and homecoming. Around four in ten prom and homecoming groups across North Texas are ten riders or fewer, noticeably smaller than the average group we hear from. A few couples together is exactly what the classic stretch was made for. A parent signs the agreement, and no alcohol rides with minors, ever. The prom transportation page lays out the parent rules.
Quinceañeras. A traditional court of seven damas and seven chambelanes, plus the guest of honor, is fifteen riders, and her dress needs a seat of its own. A 20-passenger stretch limousine keeps the court together between the Mass, the photos and the salon. See quinceañera transportation for a sample schedule.
Anniversaries and proposals. The smallest limousines do their finest work here. A 6-passenger stretch for two, a stop at Reunion Tower or White Rock Lake for photos, then dinner. Three hours that feel like an entire weekend. Ideas on the anniversary page.
Theater, symphony and dinner. The Arts District and Fair Park have drop-off lanes that suit a limousine far better than a bus. Four couples sharing a car to the Winspear or the Music Hall skip the parking garage entirely. Our theater transportation page explains curtain-time pickups.
Valentine's Day. The one weeknight of the year when small limousines get asked about like it is a Saturday. Plan ahead with the Valentine's Day limo guide.

A quick ride to dinner is never quick
Limousine trips are shorter than party bus nights, which is exactly why people under-book them. A quick ride to dinner has four parts: the drive to you, the ride to the restaurant, the wait, and the ride home. Most operators set a minimum number of hours, particularly on Friday and Saturday evenings, and minimum rental time surfaces in roughly one sales call in five.
There are two ways your limousine can be quoted:
- Hourly, with the car staying put. Your driver waits at each stop. This is what you want for a wedding, a prom, or any evening with more than two stops in it.
- As transfers. The car drops you, leaves, and a second trip is scheduled for the return. Fine for a long dinner or a show, as long as you accept that running late is now your problem.
The Rental Hours Estimator on this page adds up the legs and the waiting so you can see which shape fits. For a wedding day with several pickups, lay the whole day out in the Event Timeline Builder first and bring that schedule to your quote request.
One local note. A Saturday evening drive from the northern suburbs into downtown takes far longer than the map suggests at lunchtime. Build a cushion in if there is a ceremony start or a curtain time waiting at the other end.

Five things to ask before you pay a deposit
Limousines vary from car to car far more than buses do. Color, body style, the age of the interior. For a wedding or a quinceañera those details decide the photographs. The size pages show you the class of vehicle. Before you put money down, ask for:
- Current photos of the actual car, inside and out, with its color. Do not assume white.
- The body style. A sedan-based and an SUV-based stretch of the same capacity feel completely different to climb into.
- What is provided inside. Glassware, ice and water differ by vehicle. Adults 21 and over may usually bring their own drinks, subject to that car's terms.
- Hourly or transfer, and what happens if your evening runs long.
- Whether gratuity, fuel and tolls are inside the total.
Send those questions along with your date and stops using the Quote Request Builder. If several couples are chipping in, a single all-in total makes the per-couple share easy to work out. And if your group has quietly outgrown what a limousine seats well, the fleet overview shows your headcount across all three families.
