The limo for the group that kept saying yes
About 71% of our own Dallas inquiries are for 11 to 30 riders. So a 30-passenger vehicle can carry almost anyone who calls us, short of a full shuttle job. Most of those groups do not need this much limousine. The ones that do tend to arrive with the same story: a prom group that was supposed to be two cars and insisted on being one.
The vehicle is an SUV-style super-stretch. Extended cabin, leather benches lining the interior, a privacy partition, a wet bar area, tinted windows and climate control, with a fiber-optic starlight ceiling on select units. You enter by a side door and you ride seated. No aisle, no pole, no dance floor, and we are not going to pretend otherwise.
What you are buying is the curb. A limousine this long pulling up to a hotel ballroom with 26 students inside is an entrance no bus can match. If that is the moment your group cares about, keep reading. If the ride itself is the party, skip to the comparison and save yourself some time.
Super-stretch interiors are not standardized. Seating curves, bar placement and lighting all differ. Before you pay anything, ask us for current photos of the one that would serve your date.

InteriorApril Saturdays: read this before you wait
Prom dates are the most concentrated dates we see anywhere. Across our historical Texas inquiry data, 44% of prom and homecoming requests are for April, with May carrying most of the rest. Dozens of Dallas-area high schools hold prom on the same handful of weekends, and every one of those schools is looking at the same vehicles you are.
Families also ask late. About 28% of those Texas requests arrive 15 to 30 days before the dance. For a group of ten that can still work out, because there are plenty of ten-passenger vehicles. For 26 people wanting one limousine, very few vehicles qualify, and the group that asked in February already has its pick.
A schedule that works at this size:
- January: the school posts the date. One parent becomes the organizer and gets a yes or a no from every family.
- Early February: request quotes for the limo and the same-size bus together. The Quote Request Builder collects what we need in one pass.
- Late February: sign, pay the deposit, and stop recruiting riders.
- One week out: send the final rider list, the addresses and the phone number of the parent who will answer.
Our Dallas prom transportation page has the full set of parent rules, including the ones about alcohol that your driver enforces so you do not have to.

A ball gown takes a seat and a half

Big prom groups are not unusual. About 64% of prom and homecoming requests across the network involve 11 to 30 riders. What is unusual is fitting one of them into a limousine without somebody sitting on a friend's skirt.
The number 30 is a bench measurement. Formalwear rewrites it.
- Tuxedos and slim dresses: one seat each. Twenty-eight people dressed like this fit.
- A-line and mermaid gowns: about a seat and a quarter.
- Ball gowns with layers of tulle: a seat and a half, sometimes two.
A typical group of 13 couples, with five or six full ball gowns in the mix, uses roughly 29 or 30 seat widths. That is your practical limit: 26 students. At 27 or 28 in full prom attire, move to the 32-passenger stretch limousine or take the bus. If your list is 22 or 23, the 28-passenger limo is the better buy.
Not sure how your group adds up? The Vehicle Size Matcher asks about attire as well as headcount and answers in under a minute. Boarding order helps too: tuxes in first, sliding to the far end, then the slimmer dresses, then the ball gowns nearest the door so they sit last and stand first.

One limo, one bus, or two smaller limos

At 26 riders you have three realistic choices. We rent all three, so the comparison below is not a sales pitch.
| 30-passenger limo | 30-passenger party bus | Two 14-passenger limos | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Group stays together | Yes | Yes | No, split in two |
| Standing and dancing | No | Yes | No |
| Boarding in a ball gown | Slow: low door, long slide | Easy: steps and full-height entry | Moderate: shorter slide |
| Arrival impact | Highest | Medium | High, twice over |
| Minimum hours and gratuity | One set | One set | Two sets |
| Tight streets and venues | Hardest | Moderate | Easiest |
Most large prom groups end up on the bus, and there is nothing wrong with that. Students like to stand, and a walk-on door is far kinder to tulle. The limo wins when the formal entrance is the point and the route is simple: one pickup, dinner, the dance, one or two drop-offs. Two smaller limos win when your group has a natural fault line, like two different dinner reservations. For more on the trade-off, read party bus or limo: which is right.
Two nights this limousine was made for
Prom from Richardson to a downtown ballroom
- 4:15 p.m. The limo arrives at Prairie Creek Park, where families are shooting photos by the waterfall. Boarding takes ten minutes.
- 5:15 p.m. Dinner in the Arts District, private room. Central Expressway on a Saturday afternoon is slower than parents remember, so allow 35 minutes.
- 7:40 p.m. Short hop to the hotel ballroom. You unload at the street curb, not the valet ramp.
- 11:30 p.m. Pickup, then two drop-off houses back in Richardson by 12:30.
Graduation dinner from Arlington to Fort Worth
Twenty-six relatives celebrate a UT Arlington graduate. The limo collects everyone near campus at 5:00, runs I-30 west, and reaches a steakhouse by Sundance Square at 5:40. After dinner the family walks the square for photos, reboards at 8:30 and is home in Arlington by 9:15. With every rider 21 or over, a champagne toast on the way is allowed under the vehicle's terms, and graduates under 21 stick to sparkling water. More on that at our graduation transportation page.
The prom night totals a little over eight hours, which is long, and hours are the biggest single driver of your quote. Check your own plan in the Rental Hours Estimator before you ask for a number.
Where a very long limo struggles
Prom venues cluster downtown and in hotel districts, which are the hardest places in the region to maneuver a super-stretch. Knowing the limits in advance keeps your night calm.
- Hotel valet ramps. Many downtown Dallas hotels have a curved or sloped motor court. A long limousine can scrape on the slope or fail to clear the curve, so we unload at the street curb, usually a short walk from the doors.
- Loading zones. On prom Saturdays the curb outside a ballroom is lined with other limos and buses. Your driver may have to circle once. Tell your students to stay seated until the vehicle is fully stopped.
- One-way grids. Downtown one-ways sometimes put the door on the traffic side. The driver will reposition so riders step onto the sidewalk, even if that costs an extra block.
- Parking structures. Never an option. The limo stages at a surface lot or leaves the area until pickup.
- Home pickup. A vehicle this long needs a wide street and a straight run. A park or clubhouse lot makes a better gathering point than a driveway, and a better photo backdrop.
We check every address on your itinerary before the date. Groups coming from the northern suburbs will find pickup notes on our Richardson page.
A full limo is the economical limo
There is no per-seat price on a limousine. You rent the whole vehicle for a block of hours, and the cost is identical whether 18 or 26 people ride. For a large group that is the entire point. Split 26 ways, even a premium vehicle on a peak Saturday lands at a manageable number per family. Split 18 ways, the same limo is a poor deal and a smaller one serves you better.
So fill it, or pick a different size. Before you request a quote, chase real commitments instead of maybes. Once you have the written all-in total with gratuity included, the Cost Split Calculator turns it into the per-student figure for the parent group chat.
Prom will cost more than a birthday night in the same vehicle, and the reasons are structural: peak season, a Saturday, seven or eight hours, and minimums that rise on the busiest dates. Trimming helps. The most effective cut is meeting at one photo location instead of sending the limo around three suburbs. The second is deciding whether you truly need it to wait during the dance, or whether two separate transfers would do. Ask us to price it both ways and compare.
