Weddings set the pace for the whole calendar

You have an unusual number of places to get married in this city. The Cotton Mill, a converted mill east of downtown, puts big receptions under brick and timber. Adriatica Village, the hilltop development off SH-121 built to look like a Croatian seaside town, has its own chapel and a terraced piazza. The courthouse square keeps rehearsal dinners and after-parties inside a few blocks of each other. Ranch and barn venues on the rural edge of Collin County take the rest of the year.
Which means the busiest weekends here are wedding weekends. Fall carries the heaviest share of wedding requests in our North Texas data, noticeably above what other events pull, and roughly three quarters of those name a Saturday. Mild October evenings and outdoor venues make that pattern very visible in this city.
So if your date is a fall Saturday, you are in line with other couples for the same mid-size vehicles on the same night. Send a guest count early and you keep your choices. Our wedding transportation guide walks the whole day, and the North Texas wedding guide collects venue and vendor planning in one place.

The shuttle and the bridal ride are two jobs
Wedding groups run bigger than anything else we carry, and that changes the vehicle. About 31% of wedding requests across North Texas are for 21 to 30 riders, far above the share for other events, with another slice up in the thirties. Those are guest-shuttle numbers. Nobody has thirty bridesmaids.
Most McKinney weddings end up with two vehicles doing two very different things:
- Your wedding party. Eight to fourteen people in formalwear, from the getting-ready suite to the ceremony and on to photos on the square. A 14-passenger stretch limousine keeps the dresses uncrushed and makes the arrival shot.
- Your guests. Twenty to forty people moving between a hotel block near SH-121 and the venue. A 36-passenger coach bus does it in one trip; a 28-passenger party bus is better when the late return should still feel like the reception.
Loops matter more than seats, and this is where couples overbuy. A shuttle that runs hotel to venue twice before the ceremony and twice after the send-off carries double its seat count. The wedding shuttle calculator on this page works out how many loops and how many hours your actual list needs before you ask anyone for a number.

Long town, three highways, different drives
McKinney runs a long way south to north, so the road you board near changes everything. US-75 comes up through the middle, SH-121 curves along the south past Craig Ranch and Adriatica, US-380 cuts east to west. Downtown sits just east of US-75 on SH-5, which turns into McDonald Street as you near the square.
| From McKinney to | Typical drive range | Main route | Note for the day |
|---|---|---|---|
| Historic downtown square | 5–20 min | US-380 or SH-5 | Angled parking is full; board on a side street. |
| Adriatica Village | 5–20 min | SH-121 to Stacy Rd | Hilly internal streets; smaller buses get closer. |
| Craig Ranch and TPC Craig Ranch | 5–15 min | SH-121 | Hotel blocks here pair well with south-side venues. |
| Legacy West, Plano | 20–35 min | SH-121 west to the tollway | Valet traffic slows the arrival on weekends. |
| Deep Ellum or Uptown | 40–60 min | US-75 south | The Richardson stretch stacks up Friday evenings. |
| DFW Airport | 40–55 min | SH-121 west | Add time for out-of-town guests and bags. |
A day that links a Craig Ranch hotel, a downtown ceremony and a ranch reception can hide two hours of driving in the schedule before anyone dances. Lay it out in the event timeline builder so your photo time and your drive time stop quietly overlapping.

The square was laid out before buses existed
Downtown McKinney is a genuine 19th-century courthouse square. The old courthouse, now the Performing Arts Center, sits in the middle, ringed by Louisiana, Kentucky, Tennessee and Virginia Streets with angled parking and steady foot traffic on weekend nights. That shapes how your pickup works here.
- Limos and Sprinters can usually load right on the square for a short stop, which makes them the natural choice for wedding-party photos against the storefronts.
- Party buses and coaches stage a block off, where your driver can get fully to the curb without holding up traffic.
- Festival weekends such as Oktoberfest close streets around the square. We set a pickup outside the barricades and send your organizer a pin.
- The Cotton Mill has room for large vehicles, but the guest loop still needs a clear drop near the entrance so formalwear is not crossing gravel in the dark.
Adriatica has quirks of its own: steep, narrow streets and a compact piazza. A bus up to about 24 passengers reaches the chapel area comfortably, while a full coach usually drops at the lower entrance for a short walk that photographs beautifully anyway. Send us your venue coordinator's loading instructions and we plan the day around them.
Taproom nights are the other McKinney classic

Not every ride out of here involves a veil. The other McKinney staple is a night built around the square and the taprooms. Tupps Brewery anchors it, the bars and wine rooms near the courthouse fill the middle of the evening, and Craig Ranch offers a quieter dinner on the south side. Because the square is walkable, most groups use the vehicle for the bookends: your house to downtown, then everybody home safe at the end.
These nights run small and Saturday-heavy. A third of brewery and winery tour requests in our wider data are for ten riders or fewer, and around two thirds name a Saturday. For a McKinney crew of eight, a 10-passenger stretch limousine beats a big bus that has to park a block away and wait.
Want two or three taprooms in one route, with a stop in Plano or Allen? Our brewery tour party bus page explains how to set stop times so nobody is stranded on a patio watching the bus leave. Birthdays and bachelorette weekends that start on the square and finish in Dallas are common too, and that drive is long enough that the ride home belongs in the plan from the first message.

Three McKinney schedules we run often
Cotton Mill wedding with a hotel block, 32 guests
- 3:45 p.m. First guest loop leaves the Craig Ranch hotel.
- 4:20 p.m. Second loop; everyone seated by 4:45 for a 5:00 ceremony.
- 10:30 p.m. First return after the send-off, second at 11:15.
Adriatica rehearsal dinner, 14 riders
- 5:30 p.m. Pickup at the family home east of US-75.
- 6:00 p.m. Rehearsal at the chapel, dinner on the piazza.
- 9:30 p.m. Back to the hotel, with a stop on the square for a toast.
Square and taproom birthday, 8 to 10 riders
- 6:30 p.m. Board in Stonebridge Ranch.
- 7:00 p.m. Tupps Brewery, then dinner on the square.
- 10:30 p.m. Cocktails on Louisiana Street, home by midnight.
Each of those is a four-to-six-hour booking once loading is counted. If you are adding the night before, our rehearsal dinner transportation page covers moving family and out-of-town guests without three separate group texts.
Two clocks run in this city at once
Weddings run on the long clock. Across our North Texas data, 48% of wedding requests arrive between three months and two years ahead, which is far earlier than anything else we handle. Couples here lock the Cotton Mill or Adriatica a year out, and transportation should follow within a few weeks of that venue contract, especially for October.
Everything else runs on the short clock. Square nights, brewery tours and birthdays come in two to four weeks ahead, and that is usually fine outside peak wedding Saturdays. Prom is the exception, with McKinney High, Boyd and North all holding spring dances; ask the week the date is announced and read the prom party bus rules before you start collecting money.
When you write, send the date, the venue, the hotel, a guest count for each leg and your send-off time. Back comes a vehicle for each leg and a quote showing hours, loops and one total. Families spread across Allen and Prosper can share a single plan, and the contact page reaches the same desk as the form above.
