Your city got its Telecom Corridor nickname the hard way, from decades of technology companies stacked along US-75, and those campuses are still half the reason our phone rings here. CityLine, up at the President George Bush Turnpike, added towers, apartments, hotels and a walkable plaza, which makes it the easiest meeting point in town for a team night.

Work groups ask us different questions than party groups do. Which vehicle, and will everyone fit, in that order. For your outing it usually comes down to one thing: do your people need to move around and talk, or just sit together and arrive?

• Team celebration or holiday dinner. A 30-passenger party bus keeps the energy going between the office and the restaurant.

You already know this, but it bears saying to anyone else reading: Richardson is one of the best places in North Texas to feed twenty people well. The Chinatown stretch around Greenville Avenue and Belt Line Road is full of Chinese, Taiwanese, Korean and Vietnamese restaurants with big round tables and banquet rooms. Dim sum on Sunday, hot pot in January, a wedding banquet in the spring. These are group meals by design.

They also come with lots that fill by 11:30 on a weekend. Put the group on a bus and that problem disappears. Those are mostly surface lots, which suit a bus fine, and your driver can wait a few spaces away while the meal runs long, which it will.

Three shapes that work:

• The dim sum run. Pick up at 10:30, eat by 11, beat the wait entirely. A limo or Sprinter is plenty for a family group.
• The banquet shuttle. For a wedding or a big birthday, a coach loops between your hotel block and the restaurant so nobody's grandparents drive home at eleven.

The University of Texas at Dallas sits on your north side off Campbell and Floyd, and it runs its own calendar right through ours. Twenty-first birthdays, club formals, graduation dinners, a carload of friends who suddenly want to see a show downtown.

Two numbers are worth knowing if that is you. Across our North Texas inquiry data, nearly half of birthday requests are for 11 to 20 riders, which puts a 20-passenger party bus at the top of your list. And about 17% of North Texas birthday requests arrive within a week of the night itself. Student plans run on exactly that clock. If your group decides Wednesday for Saturday, still call. Campus pickups have a few rules you will want to know up front:

• Pick a named lot or street, not a dorm door. Residence drives are not built for a 35-foot vehicle to sit and idle.
• An adult organizer signs, and every rider's number goes on the list.
• Drinks for riders 21 and over only, under the vehicle's terms. A mixed-age group rides dry, and your driver holds that line.

Galatyn Park, just off US-75 near CityLine, is where your city keeps its arts calendar. The Charles W. Eisemann Center runs touring shows, concerts, dance and comedy all year, and every May the grounds around it fill up for the Wildflower Arts and Music Festival across several stages.

Wildflower weekend

The lots go first and the streets back up, especially when the headliner is on. Drop at the gate, agree on a meeting spot for after the last set, and let your driver stage a few blocks off. Festival crowds decide late: across our group-transportation inquiry data, about 59% of concert and festival requests arrive inside 30 days, and a fifth of them are for spring dates. Richardson is a long north-south city hung on US-75, with the George Bush Turnpike over the top and I-635 just under the bottom. Belt Line, Arapaho, Campbell and Renner carry you sideways. These are the weekend-evening ranges we plan with from the middle of town.

You are usually leaving Richardson and coming back to it, so count both directions before you pick a number of hours. • 10:30 a.m. Sprinter pickup at one house.
• 11:00 a.m. Dim sum off Greenville Avenue.
• 1:30 p.m. Matinee at the Eisemann, home by 5.

Look at what those three share. Each starts and ends at one address, and each keeps the long drive to a single leg. That is the shape that keeps your night on schedule. Your city's year runs in waves. Corporate parties in November and December, Wildflower in May, UTD commencement twice a year, birthdays whenever someone turns a big number. What you are planning decides how early to ask.

Across our North Texas inquiry data, about a quarter of all requests arrive 15 to 30 days out, and 18% of them are for groups of 21 to 30. A department-sized group like that has fewer vehicles to choose from than a table of eight does, so give yourself at least a month.
