Best Bars in Dallas for a Night Out
Guides
By Dallas Party Ride TeamGuides

Dallas's bar scene is as sprawling and diverse as the city itself — from rooftop cocktail lounges with skyline views to gritty live-music dives where the floor is permanently sticky and nobody cares. There are literally hundreds of excellent places to drink in this city. But the sheer volume of options can be paralyzing, especially if you're planning a night out with a group and need to hit multiple neighborhoods without worrying about parking, designated drivers, or navigating unfamiliar streets at 1 AM. Therefore, we've built this neighborhood-by-neighborhood guide to the best bars in Dallas — and we'll explain exactly why a party bus is the ultimate way to experience them all in one legendary night.

Guides party bus experience 1

Uptown Dallas: Where Everyone Starts

Uptown is Dallas's most popular nightlife district, centered around McKinney Avenue and the Katy Trail. It's polished, energetic, and packed on weekends. Here are the essential stops:

Did You Know?

Dallas-Fort Worth is the 4th largest metro in the US with over 8 million residents — and growing by 300+ people every day.

The Standard Pour

Vibe: Upscale cocktail bar with a craft focus. Two stories of exposed brick, warm lighting, and one of the most impressive whiskey collections in Texas.
Best for: Date night, cocktail enthusiasts, groups who want to start the evening with something refined
Price range: $$–$$$
Don't miss: Their barrel-aged cocktails and the smoked Old Fashioned

Happiest Hour

Vibe: Massive multi-level venue with rooftop patio, giant games (Jenga, Connect Four), and a party atmosphere that cranks up after 10 PM.
Best for: Large groups, birthday celebrations, bachelorette parties
Price range: $$
Don't miss: The rooftop views and the oversized frozen cocktails

Dallas Fact

Party buses in Dallas save groups an average of $40-100 per person compared to individual rideshares for a 4-hour night out.

Concrete Cowboy

Vibe: Dallas's quintessential "see and be seen" bar. Energy-packed dance floor, VIP bottle service, and a well-dressed crowd.
Best for: Dancing, late-night energy, groups who want to close out the night strong
Price range: $$–$$$
Hours: Gets busy after 11 PM — this is a late-night destination

Katy Trail Ice House

Vibe: Casual open-air beer garden adjacent to the Katy Trail. Laid-back, dog-friendly (daytime), and perfect for warm-weather drinking.
Best for: Pre-game drinks, casual groups, anyone who wants a relaxed start before hitting the higher-energy spots
Price range: $–$$

🎯 Dallas Trivia: McKinney Avenue in Uptown was once a working trolley route — and it still is. The free McKinney Avenue Trolley (the M-Line) runs vintage restored streetcars along McKinney, connecting Uptown bars to the DART rail system. Though for a group, a party bus is significantly more practical.

Deep Ellum: The Soul of Dallas Nightlife

Deep Ellum is where Dallas gets weird, creative, and wonderful. This historic entertainment district east of downtown has been the city's live music and arts hub since the 1920s jazz era. The streets are lined with murals, the bars have character, and the energy is completely different from Uptown's polish.

Truth & Alibi

Vibe: Hidden speakeasy behind a bookshelf entrance. Craft cocktails in a dimly lit, intimate setting that makes you feel like you've discovered a secret.
Best for: Cocktail lovers, date night, impressing out-of-town guests
Price range: $$$
Pro tip: Look for the unmarked door — finding the entrance is half the fun

Guides party bus experience 2

Stirr

Vibe: Multi-level venue with a rooftop bar offering panoramic views of the Dallas skyline. Each floor has a different energy — lounge on one, DJ on another.
Best for: Groups who can't agree on one vibe, rooftop views, weekend nights
Price range: $$

Did You Know?

The average party bus group in Dallas has 18 people — just the right size for a 20-passenger bus with room to move.

Midnight Rambler

Vibe: Underground cocktail bar beneath The Joule Hotel. Moody, sophisticated, with some of the best mixology in Texas.
Best for: Serious cocktail aficionados, intimate groups, special occasions
Price range: $$$
Don't miss: Their seasonal menu changes quarterly and always features inventive ingredients

Dots

Vibe: Neon-lit dive bar with a playful, retro-eclectic atmosphere. Rotating art installations and a jukebox that actually has good music.
Best for: Casual drinking, late-night hangs, people who appreciate weird decor
Price range: $

💡 Industry Fact: Deep Ellum has over 30 bars and live music venues within a 6-block radius, making it one of the densest entertainment districts in the American South. On weekend nights, foot traffic in Deep Ellum rivals Austin's 6th Street.
Dallas Fact

BYOB party buses let you bring your own drinks — our fleet provides coolers, ice, cups, and napkins on every ride.

Lower Greenville: The Local's Favorite

Lower Greenville is where Dallas locals drink when they want great bars without the Uptown scene. The strip along Greenville Avenue between Mockingbird and Ross is walkable, diverse, and full of personality.

Truck Yard

Vibe: Outdoor bar built from reclaimed materials with a treehouse (yes, a treehouse), food trucks, live music, and a cheese steak window.
Best for: Warm-weather drinking, groups, casual weekend afternoons that turn into evenings
Price range: $–$$
Don't miss: The treehouse bar upstairs and the rotating food truck selection

The Old Monk

Vibe: Legendary Dallas pub with a Belgian beer focus, eclectic interior (church pews as seating), and an atmosphere that hasn't changed in decades — on purpose.
Best for: Beer lovers, low-key hangs, anyone who values substance over flash
Price range: $–$$
Don't miss: The burger. Seriously. It's one of the best in Dallas.

Sundown at Granada

Vibe: Intimate live music venue and bar above the historic Granada Theater. Excellent sound system, thoughtful cocktail menu, and acts ranging from indie to jazz.
Best for: Live music, date night, winding down after dinner on Greenville
Price range: $$

🎯 Dallas Trivia: Lower Greenville's annual St. Patrick's Day block party was once the largest in the Southwest, drawing over 100,000 revelers. While the event has been scaled back in recent years, the neighborhood remains one of Dallas's most spirited drinking destinations year-round.

Knox-Henderson

Tucked between Uptown and Lower Greenville, Knox-Henderson is a slightly more refined neighborhood with a mix of upscale dining and solid bars:

  • The Nodding Donkey: Sports bar with a huge patio, strong beer selection, and a lively crowd. Great for watching games before a night out.
  • The Grape: Wine bar and restaurant that's been a Dallas institution since 1972. Perfect for a sophisticated start to the evening.
  • Abacus: More restaurant than bar, but the bar seating at Abacus offers some of the best cocktails in Dallas in an upscale setting.
Did You Know?

Deep Ellum has over 30 live music venues within walking distance, making it one of the densest music districts in America.

Bishop Arts District

Bishop Arts in Oak Cliff has transformed from a sleepy neighborhood into one of Dallas's most vibrant cultural hubs. The bars here reflect the neighborhood's creative, independent spirit:

  • The Wild Detectives: Part bookstore, part bar, part performance venue. They serve craft beer and wine in a laid-back, literary atmosphere with a gorgeous back patio. This is the most "Austin" bar in Dallas.
  • Boulevardier: French-inspired cocktail bar and bistro with dim lighting, velvet seating, and meticulously crafted drinks. A true gem.
  • Top Ten Records: Vinyl record shop by day, bar with DJ sets by night. Browse records with a beer in hand — does it get better than that?

Design District and Beyond

  • Meddlesome Moth: Gastropub with one of the most impressive craft beer menus in Texas — 40 taps and over 100 bottles. The food is phenomenal too.
  • Trinity Groves (Ill Minster Pub, Zoli's): The restaurant and bar incubator on the west side of the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge. Great skyline views and adventurous concepts.
💡 Industry Fact: Dallas has been ranked among the top 10 cocktail cities in America by multiple publications, including Thrillist and Food & Wine. The city's cocktail renaissance, led by bars like Midnight Rambler and Atwater Alley, has put Dallas on the national mixology map.
Dallas Fact

Our drivers log over 500,000 miles per year across the DFW Metroplex and know every venue, shortcut, and parking spot.

Fort Worth: Worth the Drive

Fort Worth is only 30 miles west of Dallas, and its bar scene is distinctly different — more laid-back, with a Western influence that feels authentically Texan:

  • Magnolia Avenue: Fort Worth's answer to Lower Greenville, with a walkable strip of bars including The Usual, Proper, and Chat Room Pub.
  • West 7th: The city's busiest nightlife district, with venues like The Yard, Reservoir, and Thompson's Bookstore (another speakeasy-style bar).
  • The Stockyards: For a true Texas experience — honky-tonks, live country music, and cold beer in a historic cattle-trading district.

A party bus makes the Dallas-to-Fort Worth bar hop completely stress-free. Check out our locations page for more on Fort Worth service.

Why a Party Bus Is the Best Way to Bar-Hop

Here's the reality: Dallas's best bars are spread across neighborhoods that are 10-30 minutes apart by car. Trying to hit Uptown, Deep Ellum, and Lower Greenville in one night means someone's driving, someone's navigating, and everyone's dealing with parking. A party bus from Dallas Party Ride solves every problem:

  • No parking hassles: Our driver drops you at the door and picks you up when you're ready
  • No DUI risk: Everyone drinks, everyone's safe
  • The party never stops: The ride between bars is part of the experience — music, lights, your crew
  • Expert routing: Our drivers know Dallas nightlife and can suggest the best order for your bar crawl

Dress Code Tips

  • Uptown: Smart casual to dressy. No flip-flops, no gym shorts.
  • Deep Ellum: Anything goes. Seriously.
  • Lower Greenville: Casual. Jeans and boots fit right in.
  • Bishop Arts: Creative casual — think vintage and eclectic.
  • Knox-Henderson: Depends on the spot — The Grape skews dressier, Nodding Donkey is casual.
🎯 Dallas Trivia: Dallas's oldest continuously operating bar is Lee Harvey's in Cedars, which opened in 1995 in a building that dates to the 1920s. Its deliberately irreverent name (a nod to Dallas's most infamous resident) and dive-bar charm have made it a local institution.
